Colorado’s foundations have a grand tradition of supporting causes that benefit people throughout the state. More than a century of history can be traced through the formation of 1,700 foundations that collectively work to improve the quality of life for Coloradans. The stories in this publication aim to help all of us better understand how foundations have been – and continue to be – a valuable resource throughout Colorado.

Over the past several years, Philanthropy Colorado (formerly Colorado Association of Funders) has actively sought to convene funders and the nonprofit agencies they support — to encourage dialogue, increase understanding and build bridges for the good of communities throughout the state. Women Give 2019 is the first study to explore the intersection of race, giving and gender. The report finds that generosity is a value shared by all communities, and that women across race and ethnicity are leading through philanthropy. As communities of color grow in wealth and influence, the study demonstrates the unique perspectives women of color bring to philanthropy and underscores the importance of understanding and engaging donors from diverse backgrounds.
