Participate in Council on Foundation's 2020 Grantmaker Salary and Benefits Survey

Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Since 1980, the Council on Foundation's Grantmaker Salary and Benefits Survey has provided the sector with the most comprehensive data on staff composition and compensation in the United States. Grantmakers rely on this annual report to plan budgets, benchmark personnel policies and practices, determine salary levels for new and existing staff, and more.

Your participation in the GSB survey is needed—the greater the participation, the greater the insights for the sector.

Key Dates

The 2020 Survey will field from March 18 through May 31, and the final report will be issued in October.

What are the benefits of participation?

Survey participants (Council membership not required) receive a complimentary copy of the full and board compensation reports, as well as access to Benchmark Central, the Council's dynamic online benchmarking tool to run deeper salary, benefits, and demographics comparisons by asset size, grants, geographic location, and grantmaker type. A preview of the benchmarking tool is available upon request

How do I participate?

Designate one or more individuals from your team to represent your organization. Multiple individuals from the same organization can work on your submission simultaneously. If you participated in the 2019 survey, go to Benchmark Central and log in using your cof.org credentials. If you did not participate in the 2019 survey, email the first and last name, title, and email for each individual needing access to research@cof.org.

What information will I need?
Answers to frequently asked questions, as well as a list of documents needed to complete the survey are available on CoF’s website.

All surveys must be completed by 5 p.m., Sunday, May 31. For more information, visit cof.org/2020GSBSurvey or email research@cof.org.
