Wednesday, June 26, 2019

Our members gathered recently to learn about proposal analysis in grantmaking in a two-day workshop led by the Johnson Center for Philanthropy. Instructors Jason Franklin and Caroline Altman Smith focused on equipping the pracitioners in attendance with the essential skills of grantmaking, including proposal review, due diligence, monitoring & evaluation, and recommendations.

The instructors employed a novel approach to the training by beginning the two-day session with a lesson on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.  The aim of this was to create a DEI-focused mindset for participants to apply to all other lessons taught in the workshop.

For those interested in expanding their knowledge in grantmaking further, the Johnson Center offers four core courses annually, including courses in Financial Analysis, Persuasive writing, Advancing Equity, and Strategy & Evaluation. The full list of Johnson Center courses offered can be viewed here.
