Colorado Just Transition in Coal-impacted Communities: Update and Conversation with Philanthropy

Wednesday, September 7, 2022, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Please join Philanthropy Colorado to build on last year's program Just Transitions for Colorado's Coal Communities. In 2019, Colorado was the first state to create an Office of Just Transition (OJT) to assist workers and communities adversely affected by the loss of jobs and revenues due to the closure of coal mines and coal-fired power plants. Since the development of the Just Transition Action Plan in 2020, there have been ongoing efforts to pass legislation directing funding and state efforts to move the Action Plan forward. In addition, Colorado foundations are supporting coal-impacted communities efforts to diversify their economies and develop community assets.

Hear from speakers on developments and activities, including:
•    Recap of the recent legislative session and Public Utility Commission proceedings;
•    Energy company commitments and community assistance processes;
•    Community grant awards and adjustments to the OJT grant program based on new legislation and added resources; and
•    Upcoming community engagement workshops being planned for the West End and Moffat County, Craig and Hayden.

There will be time for Q & A, discussion and updates from foundations and state and federal entities, facilitating connections and alignment opportunities.

•    Wade Buchanan, Director, Colorado Office of Just Transition
•    Kirstie McPherson, Community & Economic Development Manager, Colorado Office of Just Transition
