NextFifty Initiative is a young Colorado-based private foundation dedicated to funding mission-driven initiatives that improve the lives of the older adult population and their caregivers. We seek to fund game-changing efforts to improve and sustain quality of life for people in their second 50 years. Our mission is to promote independence and dignity for the aging population, to include the needs of low and moderate income persons, encompassing individuals with physical, cognitive and/or behavioral disability, by encouraging and supporting innovative, affordable and coordinated services and initiatives.

NextFifty Initiative is currently seeking candidates for the position of Director of Communications to join our team.

Director of Communications

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Communications is responsible for developing a strategic communications plan for the organization and for executing on that plan. This person will manage all of NextFifty Initiative’s internal and external communications.  This is a newly created position that requires an individual who has experience working with a broad range of communications tools and channels and who can work effectively across a wide range of communications activities. The individual hired will also help clarify the role, the relationships, and the responsibilities of the position within the NextFifty Initiative team. The Director of Communications will work closely with NextFifty Initiative’s Public Relations firm to leverage combined expertise, networks, and skills. This position will be filled by an adaptable, detail-oriented, innovative self-starter with creative ideas and a willingness to think outside of the box. This position is hands on and will require flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to fully engage in the needs of the organization.

Major Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate an integrated, organization-wide strategic communications plan to broaden awareness of NextFifty Initiative and strengthen the foundation’s brand identity across stakeholder audiences.
  • Create a brand/marketing/public relations strategy that will allow NextFifty Initiative to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with external audiences, including the media, public officials, and key influencers.
  • Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the aging space and NextFifty Initiative. Recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
  • Draft and develop all content for internal and external communications including newsletters, blog posts, website content, press releases, etc.
  • Develop and/or oversee all content and graphic elements of the foundation’s communications and publications, including collateral.
  • Oversee production of annual impact report and other reports, evaluations, and written materials as needed.
  • Manage and expand digital presence including website, newsletters, and social media.
  • Identify and execute effective communications strategies to reach NextFifty Initiative key stakeholders.
  • Analyze data to assess the effectiveness of communications tools and strategies and adapt strategies as necessary.
  • Develop key messages and talking points for presentations and speeches.
  • Write and distribute press releases, backgrounders, fact sheets, and other media materials.
  • Establish direct relationships with media and serve as media contact for NextFifty Initiative.
  • Serve as lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or impact the organization and actively cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance to the foundation, as well as NextFifty Initiative’s programs, events, public announcements, and other projects.
  • Manage relationships with any communications-related vendors and/or consultants.

 

A Qualified Candidate will have:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ year track record of success with communications and media responsibilities similar to those described above
  • Experience developing and implementing a successful communications strategy
  • Strong project management skills and a successful track record of developing content across multiple media outlets, including website, email, social media, press materials, and written pieces
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a sharp eye for editing and proofreading
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment and ability to maintain focus and effectiveness on many projects simultaneously
  • Acceptance of and sensitivity to cultural differences and utilize this knowledge in communication strategies and content
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to centering equity in their approach to and in the execution of their work
  • Experience working with or living within historically underserved or marginalized populations (preferred)

Salary and Benefits

Salary range is $110,000-$130,000 DOE. NextFifty Initiative offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, LTD/STD, Life insurance, 403B retirement with employer match, and a generous PTO policy.
